First Snow Day

Since it's reallly January 20th when I'm writing this, and I'm playing catch up with this blog, as usual, I can't remember the first day of snow this year, but I think it was right around the second week in December. The kids were majorly excited about going outside right away. We even had Alexa's ballet class later that morning, but they still wanted to go out.

So we brought out the snowpants, gloves, scarves, coats and hats. I stayed inside and ventured out to take a few pictures, but I mostly just enjoyed watching the kid's faces as they enjoyed this magical morning.

Alexa and Jared both shoved snow in their mouths within the first ten seconds of being outside. I told them we could make snow ice cream sometime. I did that a few times growing up and remember loving it. We haven't done it so far this year, so I have to remember that next time we get a big snow.

I didn't get a good picture of it, but both kids loved making snow angels. We had read a story about other children doing that. It makes me feel so good that the kids can experience things like the first snow, or the first warm sunny day right when it happens. Too often kids who go to school can't take advantage of the spontaneous, natural things that occur in life. Unschooling allows kids to delve right into what they are excited about, rather than postponing it until a later time when that same enthusiasm might not be there.
